imgur: the simple image sharer, or more?

While it is fairly popular among a lot of internet goers, those who are not so tech savvy may have never heard of imgur(purposely lowercase). What it is is a massive gallery of photos that its users submit, and the entire user base can upvote(like), downvote(dislike), favorite, share, and comment. It seems like a relatively simple and straightforward process, but it has evolved into even more than that. It has turned into its own unique version of a social media website. The images range from everything from funny to cute moments to GIF animated pictures and even motivational and inspirational stories, and it took me less than five seconds to find each of these pictures on the front page. From a personal view, i waste more time than i care to admit browsing mindlessly through the comments, upvoting and downvoting nearly everything as well as commenting on the occasional controversial. I'm not as active as some, but i try to somewhat get involved. The great and addicting thing on imgur that everyone tries to abuse is their karma system, which is a point value for how many upvotes a person has gotten across all of their content including pictures and comments. I found this website by accident, and i cannot seem to tear myself away from it. Even if you have your own even REMOTELY specific interest, there is a sub-category for it. Gaming to "earthporn" to mildly interesting facts to life hacks to anything and everything. Even when i first introduce my friends or acquaintances, i go to get off and they still stick to the website even long after I've left them on their own. All in all i believe that everyone should give it a chance. Go on. You know you want to.
