Call of Duty and Pokemon and Bronies Oh My!
So today i was taking a little break from my schoolwork and playing some call of duty, when i joined a lobby full of kids that admitted they were between the ages of 12 and 14, call of duty being a rated "M" game. I muted them as usual and played like normal when i thought of something. Why do games like Call of Duty and others in that genre attract such a young group, while games that are geared for younger people, like Pokemon (a game that almost all of my friends play or have played in the last year), attract an older crowd. Another group that i was curious about was the group that call themselves "Bronies", a very weird group dedicated to the anime "my little pony" and the deep(or so they think) intricacies of it. One reason i think may be behind it all is that perhaps the older generations are missing their childhood, and the nostalgia of catching that shiny pokemon makes them happy, while the younger generation looks up to the older one and wants to be like them so they play games with more mature content in order to call themselves mature. I myself love replaying the pokemon, it is easy to lose 3-4 hours sitting there collecting badges and leveling up, whereas i hate getting on Call of Duty and hearing 12 year olds talking about how many marijuanas(i know its not marjuanas) they did last night or how good the sex with my mom last night was. Yeah, it gets old quick and it loses it humor after the 8000 or 9000th time. Oh well. The 12 year olds can have their call of duty, ill just go hop on pokemon and keep to myself.
