Overreaction in today's society

One thing that has been bothering me recently is the massive amount of anti-gun media i have been seeing since the Sandy Hook tragedy. One common saying i tend to live by is that "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Think about it, a gun without a shooter is not considered a threat. So, why is it that when someone takes advantage of them we instantly blame the guns themselves? It seems like today's society is afraid to blame their fellow humans, for fear of not being "politically correct" They don't want to place blame on the actual people anymore. You very seldom hear a criminal being blamed for the entirety of a crime. It's always the environment they're raised in, or bad parenting, or todays terrible society. But, according to this article, they claim that physicians found nothing abnormal about Adam Lanza's brain. Another factor that people commonly blame for lack of a scapegoat is violent video games, as also stated in the link above. Coming from personal experience, i can say that this is about as far from the truth as you can get. I play some of the most violent video games released to date (Call of Duty, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, Dead Space) but i don't find myself having violent urges. I was able to graduate Valedictorian of my high school class, had a decent social life, and was pretty good in the sports i played, all while playing these violent games. Millions upon millions of people play these games, so if the games are really to blame, why doesnt this happen more often? Simply because video games do not have as bad an effect as people claim. Unless i am missing something extremely huge, i do not see how anyone can blame them, again, i believe that this is just a case of people looking for a scapegoat, as proven in an article about Lanza and his video games. I spend a lot of time on video games, on the internet, and i was raised with guns in my house that i was taught to use and hunted with. So according to people's theory's about all of these circumstances, I fit the same stereotypes that everyone is putting Adam Lanza into. I think that people need to open their eyes and realize that people are to blame for most of our times problems, not inanimate objects.
